June the 16th provided a great chance for us to work with Stewart Horne and his team at the BIP and visit the Okehampton Work Hub for the first time too – what a great space! The feedback from the session was really positive and among the comments provided in response to ‘What did you find most useful and why? was; “learning about the various funding opportunities”. Fairtrade Fortnight is run nationally by the Fairtrade Foundation and aims to raise awareness of the fairtrade movement. The aims of fairtrade is to create a world where there are better prices, decent working conditions, increased local sustainability, and fair terms of trade for farmers and workers in the developing world.

It’s heartwarming to experience the interest in social enterprise reflected in the fact that we have a full-house for our Social Enterprise Day ESSENCE meeting tomorrow at the Innovation Centre. Also interesting to see there’s still an appetite among many to be their own boss and set up in business, reflected in the numbers booked on the November Ready for Business workshop which is also full and has a waiting list.

The nominations close next Wednesday (Oct 2). Shortlisted nominees will be invited to their awards dinner on November 13, and there will be extensive coverage of those nominated, and of course the winners. Categories could include City Ambassador category, Environmental Hero, Good Neighbour and Community Group.
