What was the change they wanted to make?
The client, Teignbridge District Council, wanted a landmark, multi-purpose, cultural building on the site of the old Carlton Theatre on the seafront at Teignmouth. This would provide much needed performance and arts space, boost the local economy and be a spur for future regeneration projects nearby.
What did we do?
We worked as part of the team at Teignbridge District Council from concept stage through to the opening. We wrote the business plan and drafted the bids, advised on legal structures and governance and helped in recruiting the new Trustees and Manager who would take on the building. We provided additional support before the opening to ensure the website was functioning, the tickets could be sold and the building was opened on schedule.
We helped to secure £1.75m through the Coastal Community Fund and £500k through the Arts Council. Despite delays in the construction schedule, the building was opened in February 2016 as planned, six of the seven business units were already let, the website was online and ticket sales exceeded the targets set.
